1. You empty the contents of the pet food package into a storage container and then toss out the packaging. It is best to maintain the bar code, and the production information printed on the packaging for the period that the contents are available for consumption. The reason being is that in the unlikely event there is a product recall, you know if it affects you. 2. The storage container that you’re using for pet food storage is not airtight. Storing in an airtight storage container preserves the food’s freshness and keeps out humidity. So, bacterial growth is slowed and the taste is retained for a longer period of time.
