BPA Free bottles – Drink It Safe!
Before we dig into some key reasons for using BPA-free water bottles, let’s take a quick glance at what is BPA all about. BPA is an abbreviated term used for a chemical sealant named ‘Bisphenol A’.
In the early days, the chemical was used into the exterior coating of the plastic bottles and containers.
In a study by Scott Belcher, a toxicologist at the University Of Cincinnati College Of Medicine, it was found that high temperatures can exaggerate BPA release into the bottle polluting the water or beverage contained in the bottle. Particularly, plastic bottles and even some metal bottles have been found leaching BPA, the toxin harmful to our body as well as the environment, when exposed to heat for a longer time.
Belcher’s research team also found that BPA exposure can turn out to be extremely harmful for heart-muscle cells; it can increase the risk of arrhythmias. Some other recent studies reveal that BPA exposure in the womb can change gender-specific behavior making its effects more severe in the prenatal period.
Some U.S. states have prohibited the sale of bottles, mainly baby bottles, or containers with BPA. Many plastic bottles and kitchenware manufacturers in the country have also stopped using BPA and instead are promoting BPA-free bottles. Glasstic or non-plastic BPA-free bottles are widely adopted by consumers to completely avoid risk of ‘bisphenol A’ leach into the container.
A Step back in time
A few years back, most kids were used to drinking from plastic water bottles and cups. In fact new born babies were also fed using plastic bottles, which were used in pumping breast milk. BPA exposure can mpact the brain development and physical growth in children.
It can keep you anxious?!
The animal study published in “Synapse” in 2010 revealed another long-term impact of BPA exposure. The study claims that the mice exposed to BPA in early stage of their lifespan were more prone to anxiety throughout their life. The study was performed on a group of infant mice. It found that mice exposed to this harmful chemical in their early days were more anxious than those who weren’t exposed to this chemical. The team of the researchers claim that BPA considerably impacts the development of brain neurons.
Are you keeping the bottles in cold? This won’t save you from the impact of BPA !
It has been found that keeping water bottles, sippy cups or baby bottles at lower temperatures, still leach BPA into the contents. . Instead you can use BPA-free bottles at any temperature safely; theywon’t release BPA into contents of the container. So, if you are thinking of storing a lukewarm soup, water or milk in a bottle, make sure the bottle you purchase is labeled BPA-free.
Caution is better than cure
Don’t merely go with a ‘BPA-free’ label while buying bottles and containers for your household purpose. Some plastic bottles, though BPA-free, if exposed to overheat or used in damaged condition can cause harmful effects to your body.
What’s the right alternative?
Besides BPA, hard plastic embrace many other harmful chemicals that may get leaked into the contents when used repeatedly. Perhaps this is why non-plastic BPA-free water bottles and containers are in vogue these days. Not only are they the safest alternative to plastic bottles, but they are available e in a some cool designs.
